HELP NEEDED!!!

So I'm in need of some real, gut wrenching, brutal honesty here....I have a very close friend and her daughter is turning 4 this Friday and she's mentioned once before that she'd love to get her daughter's name put into a frame for her bedroom wall - well, I couldn't fit her daughter's name into the frame so I found this gorgeous 'dream' word and thought of trying that instead....I really like the word but here is my delimma....

I'm not at all sure I like this completed frame???? I'm not sure if its all a little bland, or not enough happening around the edges or what???? So I'm hoping you can all give me some very very honest opinions of how ugly/ok this is and if perhaps some advice on how to fix it!?!?!

I really wanted this gift to be special and somehow feel its fallen short...can you help me out at all!?!?!?!??! I'm almost feeling like this should go in the bin and I should go and 'buy' a present but am too scrooge like to let it go to waste if you can help me save it???

Hope you're all enjoying your day, I've been stuck in traffic in rainy weather for over 2 hours today so I'm feeling totally frazzled and this frame issue is just not helping!!! heheheh

Thanks so much for your help!!!!

Smiles

Here's a thought :) What are her daughter's room colors? I really like circles with squares. Could you add a third color with the blue and white and put some circles behind the word dream to add a little dimension...your scrapbook pages made me think of this with the rectangular photos and circles and flowers around them!

What a LOVELY gift!!!! It's really REALLY lovely. One idea... perhaps change the white ribbon to be blue, to match the background paper. I'm guess that it's Baja Breeze.. YUMMM. I think it's the WHITE that's throwing you a wee bit... because the word is all white with the frame. Give it a whirl and see what you think... if not.. it really is lovely just the way it is.
Hope that helps.

xx Sarah

Hi Adele! just a passer by checking out all your gorgeous crafts on your blog :)

I don't really do 'brutal honesty' very well :) so not sure how helpful my comment will be :) I think it's lovely (you are so talented) and would absolutely love it (without any thought of change) if it was gifted to my daughter! Honestly :)

I'm also partial to the word 'dream'. My 2 year old has that word on her wall and when she wakes up she always calls out 'dream' and points to it (oh to instill this in my children :)

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Felicity :)

ok, so I may be a little slow - so you may have already changed the frame ... I agree with the other Sarah (like, who wouldn't?! We know she's the best!) Try a different ribbon. Do you have the 1" double stitched grosgain in the baja breeze on p 150 of the catalogue? If not, I have some - it might look good there?

I also like the circle idea in a 3rd colour - perhaps something darker. Maybe soft suede or kraft? Feel free to come use my circle scissors if you need to.

Adele, this is really beautiful; I think you are being too hard on yourself (aren't we all?!). I wonder if maybe the little girl's initial placed somewhere in the frame (maybe top half?), and a few more flowers (perhaps a third colour) might just finish it off?

Hi Adele! :)
I do gut wrenching, brutal honesty really well, so would be happy to help :) - if my comment is not already too late.. But I have a lot of respect for your own abilities, especially in this area, where you are becoming more experienced all the time, and do a fabulous job! So please take anything I say with a grain of salt and trust yourself, because you are better at this than I am anyway! :)
I like it. My favourite part is the ruffled ribbon - I love the shine and shadows and the lack of uniformity, which adds a lot to the interest. I do agree that there is something - just a very little something perhaps lacking around the edges? My first thought was that it would be better with a different frame perhaps? Either something more ornate, or perhaps a different colour? Even some matching cross-grain ribbon glued around the outside of the frame? Or perhaps some ribbon to hang it by, with possibly a visible bow, either at the top, or on that top-right hand corner? I personally don't think that you need to add more busy-ness inside the frame - I think it looks lovely the way it is. The ribbon in another colour might work though...

It's a beautiful, thoughtful gift - your friend is going to be thrilled with it :)
